Thank you for an amazing web site. We are planning a visit the comming winter and I have tried to get info on The Shimba Hills National Reserv wich according to our hotell is really nearby Diani. Has anyone been there? Is it close enough to Diani to make a one-day visit? Thankful for any tips regarding this National Reserv. IS THIS A KENYA AIRWAYS NEW POLICY? A few days ago a friend died in a motor cycle accident and I needed to fly to Nairobi for the funeral. I rang Kenya Airways and asked to purchase an economy class ticket from Mombasa to Nairobi. I was told that there was no economy class seats left on the flight. Only business class seats left at 15,000/- return. I had no choice, I had to go. I asked to return the same evening at 6.30 pm. I was then told there were no business class seats left on that flight. Only economy available and to get that changed over from business to economy to enable me to return that evening would cost another 2,000/-. I would just like to know if this is standard Kenya Airways policy to CHARGE EXTRA TO BE DOWN GRADED ?????? If so they will recieve no more business from me or anyone else I can tell this story to.

great site, brought back many memories of my visit to Diani and Ukunda in 1998. Loved it, cried eyes out when I left and hope to come back really really soon. Does anyone at all, maybe one of the writers of this site, have any way at all of contacting someone whose address I have lost in Ukunda? He's a guy called Harry, surname completely gone, and was a beach boy with a fishing boat and used to hang on the beach outside the Diania Sea Resort. Big chap, shaved head, mid twenties, likes his gold jewellery, friendly, blah blah. love to know if he is still around and worth my while coming out again. love to catch up, and if anyone knows his whereabout, love to hear from you

Very informative with some good historical facts to familiarise myself with. I personally believe it to be good manners to know a little about the customs, cultures and languages of the countries I visit. Perhaps some basic Swahili words/phrases would be good
